COP 21 : Funders in Paris

This year, France has the honour of hosting the 21th Conference of the Parties (COP 21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change taking place from Nov 30 – Dec 11 in Paris. Philanthropy has an important role to play in the global climate change work, including in this international political process most especially in helping with implementation of key strategies and work programmes flowing out of these negotiations.

This year, France has the honor of hosting the 21th Conference of the Parties, where thousands of people will converge for the occasion. The Foundations and Climate group, with the concourse of the Embassy of France in Washington, composed of the After-FACT Foundation, Albert I Prince of Monaco Foundation, Chanel Corporate Foundation, Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation, Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, Fondation Ensemble, Fondation de France, Mérieux Foundation, Paris Sciences et Lettres Foundation and the endowment fund Synergy Solar has decided to mobilize to welcome and host a week of events around climate issues.

With the help of the Edge Funders Alliance and the European Climate Foundation, we will welcome French and foreign foundations that will gather around these issues and exchange throughout the week.

6 December: Climate and Health conference, 11h:30 am-1:30 pm

This conference, organized by the Mérieux Foundation, the ClimateWorks Foundation, the Growald Family Fund and the Pasteur Institute , will open this week of reflections. It will question the impact of climate change on health, as infectious diseases or the spread of endemic species.

8 December: Divest-Invest Conference, 6pm-8pm

The Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation will host this conference on a strong theme of the year 2015, the Divest / Invest movement. Organized in collaboration with Edge Funders, the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts, the Wallace Global Fund, she will address this subject, which took root in the United States and arrived on the European scene.

9 December : Climate and Food Conference, 6pm-8pm

The conference will be co-organized by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, the Foundation of France, the Foundation Ensemble and the GAFF (Global Alliance for the Future of Food). It will address about the impact of climate change on the entire food chain.
