The climate crisis provides an opportunity to question human societies’ organization models, so as to reach altogether environmental, social and economic sustainability. Food systems are the beating heart of societies. However, current food production and consumption models produce major negative externalities. Many local innovations yield promising results regarding the possibility of building sustainable food systems while tackling climate change but this require addressing challenges from a holistic perspective and not only environmental considerations. Foundations can be instrumental for this systemic change in many ways: supporting pilot projects, closing the gap between research and filed actors through participatory research, facilitating the dissemination of research results and practical actions toward decision-makers, developing research in strategic fields, reinforcing networks and promoting transversal and cross-sector synergies… Considering the needs, pooling and sharing knowledge and resources seems relevant to achieve significant results.

This meeting aims at providing key elements about food systems sustainability in the context of climate change and showcasing some examples of effective initiatives and approaches,  and giving an overview of various ways in which foundations can help build sustainable food systems while tackling climate change together.
